Having some trouble with Atmega16 datasheet listings August 31, 2009

First time that a listing in the blog didn’t get picked up in Google.   No problem yet.  Let’s try it again.

The Atmega16 is  a low-power CMOS 8-bit microcontroller based on the AVR enhanced RISC architecture. By executing powerful instructions in a single clock cycle, the ATmega16 achieves throughputs approaching 1 MIPS per MHz allowing the system designer to optimize power con- sumption versus processing speed.   You can read all about the ATmega 16 and get the ATmega16 datasheet here.

Progress on Day 18: Rank To Date August 27, 2009

We’ve incorporated a number of techniques to juice page position for 30 different keyphrase.   Additionally we splashed each page around in social sites.  A few links to the site have been earned.  So here is where we stand now.  I grouped the 30 phrases into pages position buckets and plotted them over time: in the top 10, in the top 20, and over position 50.  12 are in between 20-50 and only 5 are not listed in Google after only 18 days.  You can see progress has been fast and steady.

The big question to me is this:  If we do nothing to the site for a week, will these hold?

3075 Datasheet Gets Juiced August 27, 2009

Today we are drawing you (and Googles) attention to the 3075 Datasheet page now available on DatasheetReference.com.    This is shameless indexing hacking so, sorry.

The 3075 is not really a part, just 4 digits that represent many things, including a part.  So I’m going to see if I can influence it, but I suspect the traffic quality will be low.

Also, Google has successfully crawled the site via site map.  Was having trouble with Google encountering 302 redirects – which I’m not using.   Several people have complained about a similar problem using GoDaddy hosting.  Their support crew feigns no knowledge of this but its easy to find in the webmaster forums.  Oddly, the problem is transient.  If I sniff the html response to a page 5 times in a row, 2 of them will return 302 redirects.  Not a huge issue since I can get Google to index the site other ways.

More fodder for the search algorithms today.   A page dedicated to information about the ATmega16 datasheet, pinouts and DIY projects has been launched.   Enjoy the information and let’s cross fingers that linkers and Google bots will show their love.

Day 15 SEO Progress – Yahoo! Now Crawling August 24, 2009

Lots of progress in the project.

Yahoo! has finally started crawling the site.  Only the DatasheetReference home page is listed.  14 keyword phrases are tracking in Yahoo!  Let’s see, that took 6 days from site submission to first listing.

Huge gains in position have been seen.  16 of the 31 tracked phrases have taken giant leaps up the charts.

We’re now in Top 10 for LM317 Datasheet.  A very hot term.   Scoring position 11 or better is 4 of 6 key target terms.

And today, the LM35 gets splashed across the social media scene.   The LM35 datasheet page is here.  It covers pinouts, lm35 circuit schematics and 2 cool projects.  Enjoy.

LM317 Datasheet Section Now Includes DIY Projects August 23, 2009

Today I added a popular power supply project circuit schematic to the LM317 datasheet page.

The goal of adding this is two fold, first is to increase the content and linkability to the page (i.e. humans should find it more useful).  The second is the keep changing the pages and mentioning to cause Google to continue to review them for fresh content.

Expanding the content on the target page, today three new LM3886 amplifier projects were added to the LM3886 datasheet page.  The goal here is to futher cement the position of the LM3886 page, increase it attractiveness to links and satisfy visitors.

I also added a purchasing link for those that have to get one today.

For those who don’t know, the LM3886 is a popular part to build amplifiers for audio applications.  They cost about $7.

LM3886 Datasheets are Hot (in rankings) August 21, 2009

On day 12, LM3886 has popped up nicely scoring on Google page 1 for all major correlators.  The LM3886 Datasheet page is a veritable rocket of a term here.

I’ll try a few tricks to drive it up.   Would like to achieve top 5 rankings but there are several challenges to overcome.  There is a real issue of whether the position holds and doesn’t slide back.  With such a new site, Google is probably letting it get a bit of visibility to see if it’s any good.

First is competition, there is plenty of it.   At the moment, the position is only 1 back from grand-daddy site AllDatasheet.   Number one positioned is is the actual manufacturer which would be extraordinarily difficult to overcome.   In between there are several SEO sites, a few are quite new and I think I can knock them off.

Second is the age of this site.  We’re cheap and only registered it for one year.   Google doesn’t like that.  In addition, the domain is only 12 days old now.  Google doesn’t like that either.

So far, Bing and Yahoo are ignoring the site all together.   Maybe I need to add some pages on a hot topic to spice things up.

On-Page SEO Scores an “A” Grade August 20, 2009

I ran the site though SEOMoz Term Targetting tool and scored an ‘A’ for my target term for my home page, LM35, NE555 and LM317 pages.   Need to run through the list and check the remainder.   Besides needing more links, my only gap is not using H3 and H4 tags on those terms.
